SHAH ALAM, July 26 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) will be replacing old lorries with new ones as part of efforts to improve waste collection services in areas under the Kajang Municipal Council's (MPKj) jurisdiction.

Its managing director Dato' Ramli Mohd Tahir said that one of the main causes of collection delays was the failure of several lorries to operate properly, in addition to the continued use of ‘Roll-On Roll-Off’ (RoRo) bins, which are no longer suitable.

“What is happening in MPKj is that most of the existing lorries have suffered damage, including to the tyres and engines, preventing them from entering certain areas.

“We have tried using replacement lorries, but it is still insufficient. Therefore, KDEBWM will start deploying new lorries from September to resolve this issue,” he said in an interview with Media Selangor.

Ramli added that each local authority has a service agreement with KDEBWM and that the performance is assessed monthly. If services are not up to standard, a reminder notice will be issued, and penalties will be imposed.

He also revealed that the service contract between KDEBWM and MPKj, signed seven years ago, will expire this August.

On Thursday (July 24), it was reported that KDEBWM was fined RM35,000 due to unsatisfactory service quality in the MPKj area.

MPKj President Nazli Md Taib said the main contributing factors were damaged RoRo bins and non-operational compacting lorries.
