Selangor mulls enactment to ensure care centre safety and comfort

SHAH ALAM, July 23 — Selangor is considering introducing a new enactment to ensure care centres across the state offer a safe, comfortable, and dignified environment.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said there are many gaps in existing law and policies that govern care centres, not only in Selangor but nationwide.

“For example, issues related to building requirements for care centres or the caregiver-to-resident ratio involve legal provisions, where gaps still exist.

“We will try to bring this up at the Federal level, or perhaps begin with a state-level enactment through by-laws under each local authority,” she said.

She said this during the Selangor International Care Summit (SICS) hi-tea programme with 120 strategic partners and business prospects at Saujana Hotel here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Anfaal said the Selangor government, through a dedicated special committee, is actively working to improve all care centres for children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities.

“The upcoming Selangor International Care Summit (SICS) will certainly serve as a platform to connect ideas and proposals from participants, which can be used as references for both the Federal and state governments to take further action,” she said.

SICS will be held from October 9 to 11 in conjunction with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS), and will feature various components including forums, conferences, business matching sessions, and stakeholder engagements.
