KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 — The data centre framework to be developed by the Digital Ministry through the Data Centre Task Force (DCTF) will ensure data centre development policy and implementation are holistically coordinated.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the framework, to be launched by October, will assess the importance of data centres in providing solutions to issues related to necessary data integration.
“The DCTF is a committee for us to bring together relevant aspects when we receive applications for data centres and so on. When we talk about data, we talk about storage, security, priorities and so on. We need to see how we can ensure the relevant data can be integrated,” he told the media after visiting the Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre today.
The Digital Ministry and the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry in a joint statement today said the DCTF yesterday agreed the Digital Ministry would develop a data centre framework to drive the growth of the country’s digital economy.
The DCTF also decided that the Malaysian Investment Development Authority would be the lead agency to approve all applications for new projects and expansion of existing investments related to data centres.
