KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 — A total of 3,518 out of 4,054 units under the MyKiosk 2.0 initiative have been taken up as of July, representing over 86 per cent occupancy, said Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

Under the MyKiosk 1.0 initiative, Nga said a total of 2,926 out of 3,189 units have been occupied, reflecting a filling rate of 91.75 per cent.

“In line with the Housing and Local Government Ministry's (KPKT) commitment to continuous improvement based on trader feedback, MyKiosk 2.0 has been upgraded in terms of design specifications to be more environmentally sustainable and equipped with better facilities, without any increase in rental rates,” he said.

“This initiative has successfully transformed the livelihoods of 7,243 hawkers and petty traders nationwide,” he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Nga was responding to a question from Batu Pahat MP Onn Abu Bakar regarding the latest statistics on the implementation of the MyKiosk 2.0 programme.

Nga also highlighted success stories of MyKiosk traders, such as a hawker selling "ayam gunting" (cutlet chicken) at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) Square, who now earns up to RM30,000 a month, as well as food and soymilk traders who have doubled their income to RM18,000 a month after joining the programme.

He said these achievements prove that MyKiosk is not merely about providing physical facilities, but also serves as a catalyst for economic growth through sustainable business opportunities.

This, he said, effectively debunks claims that the project is a "white elephant".

He said his ministry, through the Local Government Department (JKT), has introduced a "traffic light" system to assess the performance of local authorities in managing MyKiosk units.

“As a more effective monitoring mechanism beginning this year, PBTs will receive full marks if they achieve full occupancy by traders on the ground,” he said, adding that the government is also studying the introduction of MyKiosk 3.0 to further enhance the existing initiatives.
