SHAH ALAM, July 15 — The proposed formation of a special committee to review the full report on the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion will be brought to the Selangor State Executive Council (MMKN) for a decision.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the committee will only be announced once the incident report is made public.

“We will table the matter at the MMKN meeting to discuss the names of those who will be part of the committee, including two representatives from the opposition. So far, the opposition has not submitted any names.

“We will wait for the official release of the report, organise properly, and then announce the committee’s formation,” he said during the Selangor Platform (PLATS) 2025 Strategic Partner Synergy and Appreciation Ceremony at the State Secretariat Building today.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said that the investigation report into the incident was based on findings by the Mineral and Geoscience Department (JMG), along with several other government agencies, which were tasked with the probe and had a firm understanding of the technical aspects involved.

“I have addressed many areas and responded to all allegations, including those made by individuals who suddenly became oil and gas experts following the incident,” he said.

On June 30, when announcing the findings into the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion, the Menteri Besar said that the state government would set up a special committee to propose follow-up measures to prevent the incident from recurring.

Later, he said the committee will comprise seven experts.

On Tuesday (July 8), during the Selangor State Legislative Assembly session, Amirudin said that the opposition would be allowed to propose two of the seven experts to help address the report’s shortcomings.

The April 1 blaze and explosion destroyed 81 houses with structural damage exceeding 40 per cent, partially destroyed another 81, and affected 57 without fire damage.

Another 218 houses were unaffected, including those in Kampung Tengah, Puchong.

Firefighters took nearly eight hours to extinguish the blaze. The blast left a 9.8 metre-deep crater and damaged over 400 nearby homes.
