SERDANG, July 15 — The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) has allocated RM402,520 to upgrade drains in Taman Jinma here to the aid of 10 families who have been struggling with flash floods for over a decade.

MBSJ Zone 22 councillor Tey Boon Kiat said the project to upgrade 400m of drainage involves widening works, barrier installation, and safety improvement.

The project involves the main drains along Lorong Jinma, Jalan Jinma 4, and Jalan Jinma 6, while the iron drain coverings on Jalan BS 3/4 have been replaced with concrete for durability.

“Upgrading works have been ongoing for two months and are nearly complete. (Residents) say that since work began, no flash floods have been reported. My office will continue to monitor the situation,” Tey said.

Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki meanwhile said the drains were widened from just two feet (0.6m) to nearly 2m, while barriers are being installed to ensure pedestrian safety and prevent illegal waste dumping.

She said the old, narrow drains that fed into a much wider outflow caused water to stagnate and eventually overflow during heavy rain.

“With the flow capacity upgrade, (the drains) can support increased water flow expected over the next two to three years as new apartments are built in the area,” Wong said.
