SHAH ALAM, July 13 — Worldwide Entech Sdn Bhd has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) as the first company in the country to transform a sanitary landfill site into a public recreational park.
The achievement by the wholly-owned subsidiary of Worldwide Holdings Berhad (WHB) marks a new milestone for the nation, with a certificate of recognition presented to Worldwide Entech’s executive director Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria.
She said the former 100-acre landfill site in Puchong, which previously received solid waste, has been revitalised into a green space complete with recreational facilities, including walking paths and open landscaped areas.
“This recognition affirms Worldwide Entech’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation in waste management. The redevelopment of the site was carried out in accordance with international post-landfill management standards.
“We believe that land once burdened by waste can be transformed into valuable assets for the community,” she said in a statement.
Norazlina added that the same site also made history in 1995 as Malaysia’s first sanitary landfill and, in 2004, became one of the country's earliest landfill gas-to-electricity generation projects.
“Worldwide Entech is now moving forward with the implementation of three waste-to-energy (WTE) projects in Selangor, as part of a strategic plan to strengthen waste management and renewable energy initiatives,” she said.
