Police personnel in Johor chopper crash stable

JOHOR BAHRU, July 11 — All five Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel involved in yesterday’s helicopter crash in Sungai Pulai, Gelang Patah, are reported to be stable and are being treated at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) here.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim said four of the five victims were recovering, while the other remains intubated.

“I came here today to visit our officers involved in yesterday’s incident. I was informed by medical personnel that all five are in stable condition.

“I had the chance to speak with four of the officers and Alhamdulillah, they are in stable condition. Constable R.G. Devendran remains intubated to reduce movement and help him recover,” he told reporters after visiting the victims at HSA today.

Also present was Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar.

According to Azmi, two officers — air observer Adeline Liu Yan Siu and Devendran — are in the intensive care unit, while the other three are in the general ward.

Azmi expressed his appreciation to HSA medical personnel for their swift action in treating all victims.

The AS355N helicopter crashed yesterday while performing an honour flypast as part of a demonstration during the Multilateral Nuclear Security Detection Exercise, which involved Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore.

Involved in the crash were helicopter pilot Faizul Mohammad, co-pilot Ahmad Bustamin Baharom, Liu, and two cops from the Tanjung Kupang Police Station — Siti Latipa Khairuddin and Devendran.

All crew members were rescued by marine police.
