‘Rural youth not sidelined in Selangor entrepreneur initiatives’

SHAH ALAM, July 10 — Selangor’s entrepreneurship programmes are inclusive to ensure all youth, including those in rural areas, can participate, the Selangor State Legislative Assembly was told today.

While acknowledging concerns raised by Semenyih assemblyman Nushi Mahfodz on rural youth’s access to various initiatives, state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi assured no group is left behind.

“At the state government level, we look at all segments of youth. We don’t only focus on those in urban areas; we also do for those in rural areas.

“There have been several programmes focused on rural youth, including the Selangor Madani Entrepreneur Fund (DUMS). We never neglect any youth segments. We prioritise everyone,” he said, adding that he would provide a detailed written response to Nushi on the number of rural youth who have benefited from state initiatives.

In his response, Najwan said the state has consistently taken holistic steps with training and capacity-building initiatives to empower youth, as they are the backbone of Selangor’s economy.

These initiatives, he said, are implemented through cooperation between the state’s Entrepreneurship Committee, State Economy Planning Unit, and strategic partners like Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), Selangor Youth Community (SAY) and the Selangor State Development Corporation’s entrepreneur development division.

“This reflects the state government’s commitment to fostering a dynamic, inclusive, and resilient entrepreneurial ecosystem,” he said.

Najwan said among the programmes offered to entrepreneurs are U-Plats, SAY Entrepreneur League, SAY Aspire, Selangor Export Day, Product Packaging Improvement Programme, DUMS, the Hijrah Selangor microcredit scheme, and entrepreneurship expos and exhibitions.

He said these initiatives provide a range of support, including capital injections, loans, equipment aid, and exposure to international markets.
