SHAH ALAM, July 9 — The state is confident it can contribute up to RM30 billion to the national aerospace industry by 2030, about double its current contribution, the Selangor State Legislative Assembly was told today.
State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said this growth will be driven by the Selangor Aero Park (SAP) in KLIA Aeropolis.
“This is progress I am confident we can achieve,” he said when responding to a question from Lembah Jaya assemblyman Syed Ahmad Abdul Rahman Alhadad on the state’s projected revenue from the aerospace industry in the next five to 10 years.
On June 5, during the groundbreaking ceremony for the SAP, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the state aims to capture 73 per cent of Malaysia’s aerospace economic activity by the end of the decade.
He noted that presently, Selangor accounts for 68 per cent of the country’s aerospace output, and that the SAP is just “the start of something special”.

Meanwhile, Ng said the state has outlined several targets for expanding its aerospace industry, including positioning Selangor as the leading aerospace hub in Southeast Asia through the SAP, especially in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), component manufacturing, and green aviation technology.
“We want to create more jobs and will work with the industry and academic institutions that provide training to achieve this goal.
“We also hope that through the SAP, we can attract more high-impact investments,” he said, noting that about 160 aerospace firms are operating in Selangor, and have contributed a total of RM15.1 billion to the state’s economy.
Ng added that the state government, through Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, in collaboration with the Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), has outlined five joint strategies to ensure the SAP can attract high-impact foreign aerospace investments.
Among them are the creation of a world-class ecosystem and access to global markets; ease of doing business and investor-centric governance processes via efficient coordination between federal, state, and local governments; and strengthening talent and workforce development programmes for the aerospace industry.

The two other strategies are the creation of integrated logistics facilities with connections to multimodal transport networks, and driving innovation and technological advancement.
“Promotion campaigns at international platforms such as the Paris Air Show also allows Selangor to showcase SAP’s competitive advantages to potential global investors and position the park as a premier investment destination.
“SAP’s presence in these global events also strengthens investor confidence in the state government’s seriousness and commitment to developing the aerospace sector and opens up opportunities for cooperation that can add value to the state,” he said.
Ng added that MBI and MAHB are negotiating for global aerospace industry players to move their operations to Selangor, especially those focused on MRO, aviation technology, and smart logistics.
