SHAH ALAM, July 8 — Opposition members will be allowed to appoint two of the seven experts on a special committee tasked with proposing measures to prevent a recurrence of the Putra Height gas pipeline explosion, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Speaking at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly, he said this would let them review the incident report, verify its authenticity, and raise issues that may need additional scrutiny.
“There is nothing to hide. Therefore, I’m announcing that the technical investigation team will release its findings, and a special committee comprising seven experts will be formed. The opposition will be allowed to appoint two of those experts,” he said when tabling a special motion to debate the Putra Heights blast here today.
“Their role will be to independently review the report, assess its accuracy, and identify any shortcomings or areas that require further investigation, including determining who should be held accountable for the site and the cause of the explosion.”
He also reiterated the state government’s commitment to transparency and said it will not cover up any aspect of the incident.
Amirudin said the state is ready to publish the full report, which is being compiled with input from various departments and is set to be done within two weeks after the state assembly sitting concludes.
The report will be shared with affected residents, state assemblymen, and other interested parties.
Earlier, when tabling the motion, Amirudin presented findings of the probes, which concluded the incident was not due to sabotage, foul play, or negligence, but a result of structural failure caused by environmental and geological factors.
He also expressed disappointment over the absence of opposition assemblymen during yesterday’s briefing on the gas pipeline blast with the technical team and authorities.
“I’m open to hearing all views, but unfortunately, some assemblymen seemed unwilling to listen.
“They come to the Dewan with a high level of distrust, as if the government is being careless or not taking the issue seriously,” Amirudin said.
