SHAH ALAM, July 1 — The initiatives to develop the rail ecosystem in Selangor are vital in building a future-ready rail ecosystem to drive economic growth, said Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari.
It is also crucial as it supports talent development, industry transformation, and inclusive progress for Selangor and Malaysia as a whole.
"This afternoon, I chaired the Selangor Rail Industry Council Meeting No. 1/2025, which brought together key players in the rail sector to align the goals of infrastructure transformation development for Selangor.
"This meeting is important as Selangor is home to a significant portion of Malaysia’s major rail network, including commuter services, the Mass Rapid Transit, the Light Rapid Transit, the East Coast Rail Line, as well as freight rail lines, making the state a critical hub within the national transport ecosystem," he said in a Facebook post tonight.
The meeting's key highlights include the proposed Kita Selangor Rail project, aimed at enhancing connectivity throughout the Klang Valley and serving as the 'missing link' in realising the full potential of the Selangor Aero Park (SAP).
"The proposed rail route will connect industrial zones, residential areas, and major transport hubs, including the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, the Subang Airport, Port Klang, and Pulau Carey.
"This integrated rail network will form the backbone of Selangor’s aspiration to become a regional leader in the aerospace and logistics industries," Amirudin said.
The Menteri Besar also heard several presentations on ongoing rail initiatives, including the Selangor Rail Talent Action Plan by MIGHT, the proposed Automotive Hub at the ECRL Serendah Station by MRL, a Rail Transport Hub by MARIC, and Women in Rail Malaysia, which focuses on strengthening inclusivity and talent development in the rail sector.
