SHAH ALAM, June 24 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) will launch a pilot project for electric garbage trucks from next month, to assess the effectiveness of the technology in collecting domestic waste.
KDEBWM managing director Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir said the initiative is important as waste collection operations must be resilient to certain challenges, including unpredictable weather, bumpy roads, and various types of garbage.
“KDEBWM has signed a memorandum of understanding with Horving Technology (M) Sdn Bhd to implement the EV (electric vehicle) lorry pilot project in Selangor.
“This initiative reflects KDEBWM’s commitment to lower carbon emissions and conserve nature,” he told Media Selangor.
Ramli said the project will assess the electric lorries’ ability to operate eight to 10 hours a day, and is to be fully charged before use the next day.
“The lorries’ efficiency in compacting trash while operating is also a main focus in the assessment,” he added.
Two electric trucks will be deployed in the pilot project, which is handled by KDEB ICI Sdn Bhd, and will last six months to a year.
