Selangor’s portion of Subang Airport regeneration to launch by year-end

SHAH ALAM, June 24 — The portion of the Subang Airport rejuvenation project that involves the Selangor government is now in the final phase of negotiations and is expected to be launched by the end of this year, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said a mutual understanding and agreement had been reached between Selangor and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), as a significant step forward in the Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP).

“We are in the last phase (of negotiations) with MAHB, and I believe the agreement is already done. There is mutual understanding between both parties, including the state government and MAHB,” he said.

He said this at a press conference after the grand opening of the Aircraft Propeller Service (APS) maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) facility here today.

Previously, in July last year, it was reported that MAHB and Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, had signed a memorandum of understanding to advance the development and marketing of Zones 3 and 4 under the SARP at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, also known as Subang Airport.

The development of these zones, designated for business aviation and aerospace segments, would include the construction of a new area dedicated to business aviation hangars and the amplification of the aerospace ecosystem, catering to aerospace manufacturers, assemblers and component MRO operators.

Amirudin said the state government is confident about the direction of the project and is optimistic about the launch taking place before year-end.

“This shows that we’re on the right track, and I’m confident we can launch it before the end of this year,” he said.

The SARP is a multi-phase initiative aimed at transforming the airport into a regional aerospace hub, while also addressing infrastructure upgrades and expanding aviation-related activities in Selangor.

Under the plan, the government aims to increase Subang Airport’s total annual passenger capacity to eight million by 2030.

The plan is divided into four distinct zones, each serving specific purposes, with Zones 1 and 2 designated for the expansion of the City Airport terminal and MRO activities.
