PETALING JAYA, June 22 — Petaling Jaya is a crucial city that develops rapidly and drives the state economy without sidelining environmental sustainability, said state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
She said close cooperation between stakeholders and the community have led to the realisation of initiatives such as digital transformation and economic empowerment in Petaling Jaya.
“Under the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), nature conservation and green development programmes are being actively implemented for the people’s well-being.
“MBPJ’s commitment to promote Petaling Jaya, Selangor and Malaysia as tourism destinations centred on arts and culture sustainability since 2013, which has earned it various accreditations, should be exemplified,” Jamaliah said during the 19th Petaling Jaya anniversary celebration at the MBPJ headquarters here yesterday.
She added that since 2015, the state has developed Petaling Jaya as a city of arts to elevate the creative economy sector.
“The Section 52 city centre was chosen as the location for the Arts City programme, which is a one-stop centre for arts enthusiasts that improves Petaling Jaya citizens’ quality of life.
“This initiative is also the state government’s manifestation to (keep youth away from crime),” Jamaliah said.
