SELANGOR, June 20 — Tourism Selangor will ramp up its efforts leading into the second half of 2025 to boost tourism in the state, after marking the highest number of recorded tourists among the states for four consecutive years.

Its chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling said this includes the upcoming launch of the Visit Selangor Year 2025 Grant, offering up to RM300,000 in funding for over 30 tourism-related events and projects.

"Additionally, the Selangor Community Hosts programme has been revived, with 50 hosts appointed in Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam, reinforcing community-based tourism in rural districts and enhancing the visitor experience at the grassroots level.

"We are confident that more collaborative tourism programmes will take shape. Our Public-Private Partnerships with brands such as Sony Malaysia, Batik Air, Cuckoo, and AVIS Malaysia have already laid the groundwork for impactful tourism campaigns," she said in a statement.

Selangor has seen a marked increase in tourists by 25 per cent compared to 2023, drawing in 34.5 million visitors in 2024.

Tourism Selangor said the state outperformed Kuala Lumpur (27 million) and Perak (21.8 million), maintaining its leading position for four consecutive years since 2021.

Citing the Department of Statistics Malaysia's (DOSM) 'Performance of Domestic Tourism Malaysia in First Quarter of 2025 and Annual 2024' report, it said that a key driver of this growth is the introduction of new tourism products and experiences across Selangor since 2024, including attractions like SplashMania Waterpark, Skyline Luge, The Hillock Hulu Tamu, Beacons Resort, and more.

"These were complemented by high-impact events like the Visit Selangor Year 2025 Mega Concert, MotoGP Malaysia, the Petaling Jaya Half Marathon, and others.

"At the same time, Selangor has seen a steady rise in niche tourism segments, including medical tourism, golf tourism, education tourism, agro-tourism and eco-tourism, further diversifying the state's tourism offerings," Tourism Selangor said in the same statement.

It added that the local authorities, tourism operators, and industry partners also have played a pivotal role in activating these initiatives, creating a vibrant tourism ecosystem that continues to attract both local and international visitors.
