SHAH ALAM, June 20 — A visit to the Brainport Industries Campus (BIC) in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, yesterday has opened new opportunities for strategic collaboration between Selangor and one of Europe’s leading high-tech hubs.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said this after a visit to the facility, where he led the state's delegation in a meeting with BIC managing director John Blankendaal and community manager Renee Versteegde.

Discussions centred on, among others, how Selangor could adapt BIC’s integrated model to strengthen its own innovation ecosystem, with an emphasis on smart manufacturing and collaborative research initiatives.

"BIC is a leading high-tech hub that brings together over 50 companies and educational institutions, exemplifying the ‘triple helix’ model with close collaboration between government, industry, and academia to drive innovation.

"With over 72,000 employees and state-of-the-art infrastructure, including clean rooms and flexible manufacturing areas, BIC plays a vital role in accelerating the region’s smart industry growth.

"The promising future of the campus originates from the region’s innovative past, which has been shaping progress since the 1930s.

"This visit opens the door for potential strategic collaboration and offers valuable insights into how we can adapt this concept to further strengthen Selangor’s innovation ecosystem," he said in a post on social media.

Amirudin is currently on a working visit to the Netherlands after attending the International Paris Air Show (Ipas) 2025, which runs from June 16-22.

The event also saw the international launch of the SAP, a 600-acre aerospace industrial zone located in the KLIA Aeropolis, with a potential gross development value of RM2.3 billion.

On Wednesday, Amirudin led strategic talks with aerospace industry giants Singapore Airlines Engineering Company (SIAEC) and Deutsche Aircraft, reinforcing Selangor's status as a rising aerospace hub.

Selangor currently accounts for 68 per cent of the country’s aerospace economic activity, with an aim of increasing that share to 73 per cent by 2030.
