SHAH ALAM, June 17 — Selangor is poised to become a regional aerospace hub with the development of the Selangor Aero Park (SAP), backed by the strategic partnership between Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI and the National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia (Naico).

This is according to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who said the partnership will position Selangor as the region’s go-to premier aerospace destination by focusing on the SAP’s development in innovation, investment, and talent building.

“Our vision for the SAP places human capital at the core of its growth strategy, with initiatives focused on training, research, and future skills development to ensure we build a strong, resilient, and future-ready aerospace workforce.

“From the proposed establishment of the Aerospace Talent Centre to national collaboration via MyAero, this initiative marks another bold step towards positioning Selangor as the regional aerospace capital,” he said in a Facebook post today.

The partnership between MBI and Naico was formalised at the International Paris Air Show (Ipas) 2025, alongside the SAP’s official launch.

Located within the KLIA Aeropolis, a 100 sq km flagship airport city, the SAP offers a strong potential for high-tech industrial development, aviation-linked logistics, and investment.

It is also envisioned as a catalyst for growth for the nation’s aerospace sector — currently worth RM55.2 billion — under the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030. Spanning 600 acres, the SAP is projected to unlock a gross development value of RM2.3 billion.

Amirudin also emphasised the SAP’s strategic advantages, including a ready-built ecosystem with global players like Airbus Helicopter, GE Aviation, and Spirit AeroSystems, strong research and industry-academia collaboration, investor-friendly processes, structured talent development, and integrated logistics with bonded direct access to KLIA.

The project is a joint effort between the Selangor government, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), and strategic coordination from Naico.

During his visit to Ipas, Amirudin said that he, along with Transport Minister Anthony Loke and the Invest Selangor Bhd delegation, also met with the leadership of French aerospace manufacturer Dassault Aviation.

Discussions centred on the company’s possible interest in expanding its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations in Selangor and the state government’s strategic support to facilitate this.

“We also had the opportunity to tour Dassault’s flagship aircraft, the Falcon 8X and Falcon 10X, which reflect the company’s cutting-edge innovation in design, range, and comfort,” he said.

“As Selangor strengthens its position as a regional aerospace hub through the SAP, we look forward to meaningful collaborations with global industry leaders like Dassault to advance aerospace excellence in Southeast Asia,” he said.
