SHAH ALAM, June 10 — The nation's number one tower runner Soh Wai Ching and national lawn bowler Nor Farah Ain Abdullah have been announced as the Selangor Sportsman and Sportswoman, respectively, at the Selangor State Sports Awards (ASNS) 2024.

The win enables both athletes to take home a RM10,000 cash prize, a commemorative trophy, and a certificate, presented by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari during the ceremony at Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Abdul Aziz today.

Meanwhile, the ASNS 2024 Most Promising Sportsman and Sportswoman awards were won by table tennis athlete Tey Hong Yu and aquatics athlete Khew Zi Xian, respectively, each receiving RM5,000 and a trophy.

The Best Male Coach award went to Mohd Ariffin Abd Ghani from lawn bowls, while Marilyn Chua Yu Ching (aquatics) won in the female category, with each receiving a RM5,000 incentive.

The Sports Leadership Icon Award, in recognition of contributions to the development of sports in the state, was awarded to former Selangor State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim.

The Selangor Red Giants e-sports team claimed the Best Team Award, receiving RM10,000 and a trophy.

A Jury Award was also presented to the Selangor School Sports Council and Selangor Red Giants Co-Founder Simon Lim Swee Teck, with each receiving RM5,000.

In addition, Amirudin said the awards serve as recognition for athletes and sports institutions that have demonstrated commitment and achievements at the state, national, or international level.

“We are also very proud that Selangor’s Sportswoman (Farah Ain) was recently named the National Sportswoman at the National Sports Council Awards.

“In terms of the sportsman category, Soh's achievements are unmatched as he has won numerous championships.

"However, I believe this also serves as motivation for other sports to improve their performance,” he told the press after the event.
