SEPANG, June 5 — Selangor is poised to capture up to 73 per cent of Malaysia’s aerospace economic activity by the end of this decade, according to Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
He noted that presently, Selangor already accounts for 68 per cent of the country’s aerospace output, and that the Selangor Aero Park's (SAP) development is merely “the start of something quite special”.
“By the end of this decade, I am confident we will surpass 70 per cent, towards 72 to 73 per cent,” Amirudin said in his speech during the SAP's launch and groundbreaking ceremony at the KLIA Aeropolis today.
“The birth of SAP will drive more interest from global giants to relocate to Selangor, from aircraft manufacturers like Airbus and Boeing, to companies involved right across the supply chain, such as metals, plastics, composites, electronics, information technology, and professional and technical services. The list is endless.
“But we should not stop there. Selangor’s existing partnerships in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services sector should be a platform to embark on new relationships with companies involved in aircraft engine and engine parts, including critical minerals,” he said.
At the event, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) and Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI marked a significant milestone in Malaysia’s aerospace industry with the SAP’s groundbreaking.
The park is expected to attract high-impact investments across the aerospace supply chain, including precision engineering, advanced manufacturing and integrated logistics services, while serving as a hub for innovation, talent development, and technology transfer.

Amirudin noted that the SAP is also set to play a crucial role in achieving Selangor’s goal of creating 100,000 high-paying jobs by the end of the current term, with projections indicating that the park alone could generate over 20,000 job opportunities for young Selangorians by 2035.
“In fact, the opportunities must include partnerships by government and industry with academia, and we have begun this in Selangor through partnerships embarked upon by the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) with the likes of GE Aviation,” he said.
The Menteri Besar added that proactive efforts by the Federal and state governments, including by leading companies, will have a positive impact in cementing Selangor’s position as the home of Southeast Asia’s aviation.
SAP is the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030’s vision to generate RM55.2 billion in annual aerospace revenue.
Spanning approximately 600 acres within the KLIA Aeropolis, the park has a potential gross development value (GDV) of RM2.3 billion.
The location also benefits from easy connection to Port Klang, further strengthening its multi-modal logistics proposition.
The park development is designed to host aerospace and advanced manufacturing activities at scale, offering built-to-suit and fully serviced facilities to cater to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier One aerospace players, as well as high-tech and high-value supply chain operators.
It is also supported by a governance model led by MAHB and MBI to ensure seamless investment facilitation.
