SHAH ALAM, May 31 — Selangor Pakatan Harapan has expressed full support for Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari to serve as Menteri Besar until the end of the current term and is confident in his ability to drive the state's economy forward.
In a joint statement, the coalition's component parties said Amirudin's leadership and experience are crucial to maintaining Selangor's position as Malaysia's economic powerhouse and ensuring continuity in governance.
They said the support for the Menteri Besar is also in line with the need for a stable and strong state administration to ensure the effective implementation of all planned policies and initiatives.
"These include the Second Selangor Plan, the development of a third port in Pulau Carey, the Iltizam Selangor Penyayang agenda, and the Shah Alam Sports Complex project.
"The continuity of the state’s top leadership will send a positive message to investors and the business community in Selangor," the statement read.
It was signed by Selangor DAP chairman Ng Sze Han, state Amanah chairman Dato' Izham Hashim, and Selangor Keadilan deputy chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, all of whom are also part of the State Executive Council.
The statement comes amid fierce speculation about a possible change in the Menteri Besar, with Amirudin reportedly being considered for a move to Putrajaya following recent vacancies in several Cabinet positions.
Umno’s Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz’s decision to quit the party and his expressed intention to join Keadilan have further fuelled rumors, with some suggesting that the investment, trade, and industry minister could be the next to lead Selangor.
Zafrul’s current term as a Senator ends at the close of this year, meaning he cannot hold a Cabinet position unless he wins a parliamentary seat.
In their statement today, the Selangor Harapan component parties also said Amirudin's leadership as state coalition chairman is also highly needed to further strengthen cooperation with Barisan Nasional ahead of the next general election.
"His experience and leadership are key to the unity that was established, leading to victory and the formation of the Unity Government in Selangor in the recent state election," they said.
