PUTRAJAYA, May 21 — The federal government and Sarawak signed a joint declaration on matters involving Petronas and Sarawak’s Petros.
The declaration was signed at Perdana Putra by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.
At a joint press conference, Anwar, who is also finance minister, said the deal marks a step forward in developing both Malaysia and Sarawak through the collaboration of Petronas and Petros.
“This understanding, in principle, had been discussed earlier with the premier (Abang Johari), taking into account the parameters that recognise both the Petroleum Development Act 1974 and Sarawak’s amended Distribution of Gas Ordinance 2016,” he said.
Anwar added that the agreement reflects Sarawak’s growing capabilities and maturity, including the establishment of a state oil company with strong potential.
