SHAH ALAM, May 21 — The state government has especially reframed the Khairat Darul Ehsan (KDE) scheme to ensure more elderly and disabled folk receive the KDE RM1,000 death benefit.

State executive councillor for women empowerment and welfare Anfaal Saari said the new scheme is an improvement from the administration’s Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE), Iltizam Sihat Selangor (ISS), and Selangor General Insurance Scheme (INSAN).

“KDE allows the next of kin of those registered with the scheme to receive a RM1,000 death benefit, compared with just RM500 previously.

“The SMUE was for those aged 60 and up, but (the KDE) has been expanded, with those aged 50 and up eligible,” she said on Media Selangor’s Bicara Semasa programme.

Anfaal said eligible individuals can submit new applicants online from June 1 to December 31 this year.

She said that for prior SMUE, ISS and INSAN need only update and verify their details and their next of kin’s information by June 1.

In the 2024 Selangor State Budget, the state government earmarked RM20 million for the KDE, targeting 20,000 recipients.

Earlier, death benefit payments under the SMUE were halted in May 2019. It restarted in 2021 with an allocation of RM7.5 million, with each recipient getting RM500.
