SHAH ALAM, May 20 — The first section of the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) that connects Sungai Long with Ampang is scheduled to open in July.
Bangi Member of Parliament Syahredzan Johan said this will ease traffic conditions in the Bandar Sungai Long and Bandar Mahkota Cheras areas.
“According to the progress report, physical works at Section 1 are scheduled to be completed by the end of this month, with a safety inspection planned for next month.
“I will be monitoring the progress of the project to ensure that this section of the highway will open according to the timeframe given,” Syahredzan said in a post on Facebook.
He said that Section 2 of the EKVE that connects Ampang with Ukay Perdana has reached 76 per cent of completion, and is estimated to be fully operational by January next year.
“I am satisfied with what was briefed to me by the EKVE contractors, and appreciate how they have brought my team here to see for ourselves the progress of the work so far.
“Once both of the sections are opened, they will form part of a strategic route that will lessen the traffic congestion in the whole area,” Syahredzan added.

The EKVE is a curved-shaped road in the Greater Kuala Lumpur (KL). It stretches for 24 kilometers as a highway, and then for 12 kilometers as a slip road.
It serves as an alternative to the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) without traffic having to enter the Kuala Lumpur city centre, therefore, reducing congestion.
The EKVE also serves as a smart urbanisation project for Greater KL, and supports the economic expansion of Selangor, especially for the residents of Kajang and Hulu Langat who use it as a direct link to the city.
