SHAH ALAM, May 17 — The Selangor government has allocated RM1.2 million this year through a special assistance scheme to support non-Muslim houses of worship across the state.
Special Committee of Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Sikh, and Tao Religions in Selangor (Limas) co-chairman Ng Sze Han said the funds are being channelled to temples, churches, and viharas for repair works, maintenance, and upgrades to religious facilities.
“The aid is part of the state administration’s commitment to ensuring that every community in Selangor is given fair opportunities and space in the state’s development.
“The state government will continue to support social development and welfare programmes that instil noble values in society, in order to build a peaceful, united, and compassionate state,” he said at the state-level Wesak Day celebration here today.

To date, the state government has allocated RM6 million to support non-Muslim houses of worship in Selangor, including RM3.6 million for Buddhist and Taoist temples, RM1.7 million for Hindu temples, and the remainder for Christian and Sikh places of worship.
Today's state-level Wesak Day celebration at the Maha Karuna Vihara Temple in Elmina was held in a lively atmosphere, drawing a multiracial crowd.
The event was officiated by Ng Sze Han and attended by Selangor State Speaker Lau Weng San.
Visitors were treated to traditional multicultural dance performances, Buddhist cultural showcases, a Chinese orchestra, Sri Lankan dances, and free vegetarian meals.
Families began arriving early in the morning to pay tribute to the founder of Buddhism, Siddhartha Gautama, through offerings at the Buddha statue.
Other activities included a photography competition, lucky draws, and animated film screenings for children.
