TURKEY, May 17 — The Selangor government shared its experience in managing disasters such as floods and landslides during the 7th International Symposium on Natural Hazards and Disaster Management (Ishad) 2025 held in Diyarbakır, Turkey.
The state delegation, led by state executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi, presented on the state’s efforts to strengthen disaster preparedness, including the use of technology, community involvement, and inter-agency coordination.
“I was honoured to present Selangor’s experience in post-disaster management, particularly in handling floods and landslides,” he said in a Facebook post.
He added that Selangor remains committed to exploring partnerships with agencies and experts to further enhance its disaster response capacity.
Ishad 2025 brings together experts, researchers, and policymakers from around the world to share approaches and innovations in natural disaster management.
Earlier, Najwan, along with Petaling District Officer Huzunul Khaidil Mohammed and Kuala Langat District Officer Tengku Rohana Tengku Nawawi, made a working visit to the office of Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (Afad) in Istanbul.
The meeting was also attended by Malaysia’s Consul General in Istanbul, Ahmad Amiri Abu Bakar.

It also serves as the lead agency coordinating intergovernmental cooperation in disaster management across Turkey.
