SHAH ALAM, May 16 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari described today’s handover ceremony for the development of the new Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) as the realisation of a long-awaited vision, amid public doubts over whether the project would ever materialise.

Calling it a major milestone, Amirudin said a project of such scale and complexity demanded meticulous planning and time, adding that public scepticism was understandable.

“Over the past year, many in Selangor have followed the progress of the KSSA project with anticipation, and in some cases, understandable scepticism. Some have expressed doubts about whether it would truly materialise, which is entirely reasonable.

“Today, we proudly mark a major milestone in realising a vision long-awaited by the people of Selangor,” he said at the letter of agreement handover ceremony held at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel here today.

Amirudin said the project has taken years to shape, led by the vision of Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, and backed by the state administration.

“As envisioned and inspired by His Highness, this project is more than just an infrastructure renewal, it stands as a symbol of a collective aspiration for Selangor’s future.

“It is designed with a deep appreciation of the state's rich history, while looking forward with the aim of positioning Selangor prominently on the stage of Southeast Asia and Asia.”

Amirudin added that the KSSA goes beyond just sports facilities. It will incorporate key urban resilience features and most notably, a comprehensive flood mitigation system integrated directly into the design.

He said the state government is also adopting sustainable, nature-based solutions as part of its long-term approach to infrastructure and climate resilience.

At the handover ceremony, the Selangor government — through Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI — officially appointed Lembaran Prospek Sdn Bhd (LPSB), a wholly owned subsidiary of MRCB Land Sdn Bhd and part of Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), as the project’s main contractor.

The event was witnessed by the Tengku Amir Shah, Amirudin, and State Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.

Designed by local firm Hijjas and global consultants Populous, the new KSSA will blend iconic heritage with modern, inclusive elements to meet community needs while aligning with Selangor’s low-carbon goals.
