HULU SELANGOR, May 15 — The Kuala Kubu Baharu Mini Stadium has the potential to become the official venue for women’s football during the 22nd Malaysia Games (Sukma) next year.

The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) said this prospect was explored during a courtesy visit by the Sukma Secretariat, led by its chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Yazid Sairi, to MPHS to assess the suitability of the stadium for hosting the nation’s largest sporting event.

“Various improvement works are currently underway to ensure the stadium’s facilities and infrastructure meet the required standards.

“Among the upgrades being carried out are repairs to the leaking roof, the addition of a prayer room, the provision of toilets for disabled persons, the construction of male and female changing rooms, and the refurbishment of high-mast lighting to enable the stadium’s use at night,” it said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (May 13).

Should the stadium be selected as one of the official venues for the games, MPHS is confident the move will not only enhance the town's reputation as the first Planned Town in Malaya but also serve as a platform to promote sports and tourism in the Hulu Selangor district.

“A variety of exciting activities, including water rafting, paragliding, and other extreme sports in the area, can be showcased to athletes and visitors from across the country.

“In addition, hosting Sukma in the state is expected to positively impact the local economy through increased business opportunities and exposure to a national-level event,” it said.

Selangor will host Sukma 2026, having last organised the prestigious sporting event in 1998.

When tabling the 2025 Selangor Budget in November last year, Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari announced a RM6 million allocation to implement sports development programmes in preparation for the games.
