SHAH ALAM, May 14 — The Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah conferred state medals on 155 recipients today, including former national silat athlete Muhammad Afifi Nordin.
He was conferred the Pingat Kecemerlangan Sukan Selangor (P.K.S.) in an investiture ceremony held in conjunction with the 79th birthday of the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.
The ceremony at the Dewan Jubli Perak Sultan Abdul Aziz involved recipients from Hulu Selangor, Kuala Selangor, Gombak, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Sabak Bernam, and Sepang.
Ten individuals received the Pingat Pekerti Terpilih (P.P.T.); 18 recipients of the Pingat Perkhidmatan Cemerlang Selangor (P.P.C.); 114 individuals were awarded the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian (P.J.K.), while 12 recipients received the Pingat Perkhidmatan Selangor (P.P.S.).
At the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (KL2017), Afifi helped Malaysia add to its gold medal tally in the men's Seni Jurus Tunggal category, scoring 470 points to defeat Indonesian silat exponent Sugianto, who earned silver with 462 points.
Afifi and his partner Mohd Taqiyuddin Hamid also won a bronze medal in the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia in August 2018.
Yesterday, Tengku Amir Shah conferred state medals to 184 recipients from the Petaling and Klang districts during the first of a two-day investiture ceremony. Three players from the Selangor Red Giants (SRG) e-sports team were among those honoured.
SRG players Hazziq Danish Mohamad Rizwan, known by his gaming alias 'Stormie', Muhammad Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul Zaman (Sekys), and Muhammad Qayyum Ariffin Mohd Suhaimi (YumS) were each conferred the P.K.S medal in recognition of their exceptional achievements in competitive gaming.
