KUALA SELANGOR, May 13 — The Selangor government is prepared to coordinate talks between insurance firms and victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this will be discussed with the state disaster unit today.

“We will look into several issues today, with the state government possibly becoming mediators, as this is a deal between two parties. However, we want to solve basic issues first including home rentals as some have not been settled,” he told a press conference.

He was met after the handover of the Raw Water Guarantee Scheme project’s packages A and C at Kolam Horas here. Also present were State Secretary Dato’ Ahmad Fadzli Tajuddin, state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Dato’ Izham Hashim, and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd CEO Adam Saffian Ghazali.

Local media had previously reported that some victims said they faced challenges in claiming home and vehicle insurance.

Meanwhile, Amirudin said that at the next executive councillors meeting, state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin will table a paper on a proposal to ban vape sales.

“The Honourable Jamaliah Jamaluddin will table the matter at the meeting. We will consider this aspect holistically,” he said.

Last month, the Selangor government announced it was studying a proposal to ban vape sales, with a decision to only be made after talks with the Selangor State Health Department.

The call was made following a statement issued by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, who said state governments can ban vape sales.
