SHAH ALAM, May 13 — The state’s recycling programme SELKitar that will be carried out by KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) starting today will see the participation of 50 housing estates for the long-term.

KDEBWM’s managing director Dato’ Ramli Tahir said the programme also involves two local councils, Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ) and Majlis Perbandaran Sepang (MPSepang).

“Our aim is to go from house to house to collect recyclable items. Nestle Malaysia is also helping us to champion this cause. The residents of the 50 housing estates have been notified and will be ready with their items.

“A lorry will visit them on a particular day each week and they will just have to make sure that their recyclables are sorted out properly for ease of collection,” Ramli told Media Selangor.

“We do not accept any non-recyclables like used tissues, glassware, soiled diapers, cigarette butts and used cooking oil,” he added.

Participating residents have been instructed on the following:

  1. To separate their recyclable items (plastics, paper, cardboard, and drink cans and cartons)
  2. Ensure the items are clean and dry
  3. Put them in a box or plastic bags
  4. Place them in front of their house on the day of collection

Last month, the Selangor government through KDEBWM signed an agreement with Nestle Malaysia to oversee this programme.

After the signing of the memorandum of understanding, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the joint effort marks the beginning of an initiative that was already outlined in the 2025 state budget, which is to reduce the dependence on landfills in the state.
