SUBANG JAYA, May 12 — Four victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion whose homes were severely damaged have received aid from organisational training group AsiaWorks Malaysia.

AsiaWorks Malaysia representative Kaijing Yeong said the firm has channelled RM11,000 worth of personal contributions from several parties sympathetic to the victims’ plight.

“Though these victims have received assistance from several parties, they are still affected by the incident and countless losses.

“We hope this aid can alleviate their burdens and be used to repair their homes or for other necessities,” he said when met after an appreciation ceremony for firefighters at the Subang Jaya Fire Station today.

During the ceremony, firefighters who responded to the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion were hailed for their service.

A victim, Raja Shyra Raja Haris, 56, said she appreciates aid from various parties.

“I’m renting in Kelana Jaya for the time being and my belongings have been at a Shah Alam warehouse for four months, at a rental rate of RM10,000.

“The roof of my (Putra Heights) house was badly damaged, so my husband and I decided to rent a warehouse unit to put our usable belongings in a storage unit until our house is repaired,” she said.

Meanwhile, Subang Jaya Fire Station supervisor Ismail Yusof said his team is grateful for appreciative gestures they have received.

“Firefighters are normal people, too, and we were just doing our jobs to the best of our ability, especially in helping those in the incident.

“Thank God, there were no serious accidents during our operation in Putra Heights, besides four of our members suffering burns to their ears and necks,” he said.
