OSAKA, May 10 — KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) is exploring artificial intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies at the Expo Osaka Kansai 2025 in Japan as part of efforts to improve waste management systems in Selangor.

Its managing director Dato' Ramli Mohd Tahir said they are also gaining insights into waste management methods based on the latest technologies from the national pavilions of participating countries.

“Japan has been using algae and micro-bio systems to manage solid waste, which is then recycled into valuable items like chairs.

“InsyaAllah, based on the knowledge we have gained, KDEBWM will explore ways to enhance collection capabilities more efficiently and ensure a cleaner Selangor,” he told Media Selangor.

Ramli was speaking after serving as a panellist in the forum 'Building a Resilient Future: Green Technology & Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)' at the Malaysia Pavilion during the Expo Osaka yesterday.

He added that KDEBWM is open to collaboration with Japanese waste management companies to share expertise and advanced technologies to enhance service quality for the public.

“I also sincerely hope KDEBWM can improve our collection management and solid waste generation systems by ensuring that waste is not discarded in open areas.

“We also aim to overcome all weaknesses through the lessons learned over these five days in Osaka,” Ramli said.

Selangor is part of the delegation led by the Investment, Trade, and Industry Ministry at the expo, which gathers participation from 161 countries.

The week-long programme showcases Selangor as a competitive state of the future, globally connected and driven by technology, culture, and youth energy.
