Mais rubbishes claim GISBH rehab focused only on tajwid, not aqidah

SHAH ALAM, May 9 — Claims that the rehabilitation process for former members of Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings (GISBH) focused solely on tajwid (Quranic pronunciation) rather than aqidah (Islamic creed) are baseless, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) said today.

Its secretary Ahmad Shahir Makhtar said Mais had approved an aqidah rehabilitation initiative, dubbed the Insan Rabbani programme, during the Riqab Committee Meeting on February 4, debunking a viral post that claimed otherwise.

This programme, he said, aims to restore the Islamic creed of GISBH members in line with the Selangor fatwa gazetted on October 16, 2024, which declared the beliefs, teachings, or practices of GISBH and its affiliates as deviant from true Islamic teachings.

"Therefore, the social media claim that the aqidah rehabilitation process for former GISBH members is limited only to tajwid lessons is unfounded and inaccurate.

"Mais reminds the public to verify facts before making statements or accusations against the council to avoid confusion among the Muslim community," he said in a statement today.

Elaborating, Shahir said the Insan Rabbani programme is one of Mais' rehabilitation initiatives done in collaboration with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department.

The programme runs from February to August 2025, with sessions held every Sunday across 24 instalments, each lasting four hours. A total of 51 certified religious teachers are involved in delivering the programme.

"The content of the programme is based on the Istitabah module approved by Mais in 2013, focusing on Quranic studies, aqidah, tasawwuf (spiritual purification), and fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) for adult former GISBH members.

"In the Quranic component, participants deepen their understanding of the Quran, including the study of tajwid, to improve their recitation and comprehension.

Shahir said the aqidah module covers the foundational principles of Islamic belief, including correct understanding of the attributes of Allah, the Prophets, and related concepts.

The tasawwuf component focuses on purification of the heart and the cultivation of praiseworthy traits, while the fiqh module teaches the principles of prayer and related matters based on the Shafi’i school of thought.
