SHAH ALAM, May 2 — Rental payments for the remaining 200 victims affected by the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights last month are expected to be completed by next week.

State executive councillor for housing Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the delay in payments was due to incomplete documentation, primarily the absence of bank account numbers.

“Many victims withheld their bank details at first out of concern for scams, but they were reassured after the first group of 70 victims successfully received their three-month rental payments,” he said.

“We are confident all payments can be completed by next week. The district office is currently processing the required documents before the funds are transferred directly into their accounts,” he added.

Borhan was met at the opening of the Selangor Mega Food Festival 2025 held in conjunction with the Visit Selangor Year at Dataran Kemerdekaan, here, yesterday.

Previously, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that RM2.73 million has been allocated for rental aid for victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire.

He said the funds will benefit 455 families, each receiving RM6,000 to cover a three-month rental period starting this month.

The aid is being disbursed in three phases.

So far, 214 recipients have received the payments, while the rest are still in the process of completing the necessary documentation, including providing identification cards.

The gas pipeline explosion in the morning of April 1 produced flames with temperatures reaching 1,000 degrees Celsius which took nearly eight hours to be extinguished.

A total of 81 homes were destroyed by the fire, another 81 were damaged, while 57 were affected but not burned.
