SHAH ALAM, May 2 — Some two million visitors, including from overseas, have visited Selangor in the first quarter of this year.
State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said he predicts that the encouraging numbers will increase further due to the many promotions that Tourism Selangor is carrying out both locally and around the world.
“As of now, we are still waiting for the latest, exact figures, but the forecasted figures indicate some two million local and foreign visitors. We aim to release the visitor numbers every quarterly,” he said.
Ng added that many attractions have been planned for Visit Selangor Year 2025 (TMS2025), spanning different segments of interest.
He was speaking after launching the 2025 Selangor Mega Food Festival at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam that was also attended by executive councillor for housing Datuk Borhan Aman Shah and Tourism Selangor CEO Chua Yee Ling.
Ng also said he is confident that the 40 per cent figure forecasted for foreign tourist arrivals for TMS2025 will be met by year end.
“For now, we have already achieved 33 per cent of foreign tourists arrivals, with a majority of them coming from China, followed by Singapore, Indonesia and Japan.
“Each foreign tourist spends around RM4,068 here, while each local visitor spends around RM668. We are aiming to get an average spending of more than RM5,000 for each foreign tourist in the near future to stimulate Selangor’s economy,” he said.
TMS2025 is expected to draw eight million visitors and bring in an expected RM11.7 billion in tourist receipts.
According to Tourism Selangor, TMS2025 will feature 60 events, with added focus on ecotourism, agrotourism, and the arts.
Recently, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari also launched a promotional panel that would go on the back of Smart Selangor busses to advertise all upcoming events for TMS2025.
