YALA, April 28 — Two police officers were killed while another was seriously injured in a bomb explosion in Thanto district, Yala province, southern Thailand today.
Thanto District Police Chief, Colonel Pariwat Khuanmanit, said the incident occurred at 9.30am local time, and initial investigations indicated that a homemade bomb, believed to have been placed in a nearby vehicle, suddenly exploded just as a police vehicle stopped at the scene.
"The explosion caused all three officers, who were travelling in a four-wheel-drive vehicle, to suffer severe injuries," he told the press during a visit to the scene.
The injured officers were rushed to the Thanto Hospital for treatment.
"However, two of them were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The third officer is still receiving treatment," Pariwat said.
He added that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the attack.
