SHAH ALAM, April 25 — Flood mitigation projects at hotspot locations have been ordered to be expedited to prevent recurring floods.
State executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi said the directive was issued by Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari during the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.
“One of the key agendas discussed in the meeting was the acceleration of flood mitigation projects," he said at an Aidilfitri event with Yayasan Hijrah Selangor entrepreneurs here yesterday, which was also attended by its chief executive officer Dato’ Mearia Hamzah.
"To that end, state executive councillor for infrastructure Dato’ Izham Hashim will be on the ground to coordinate efforts with the relevant agencies and departments to ensure swift implementation.”
“The state government has made the announcement and will proceed with implementation. Therefore, the relevant agencies must expedite the process and coordinate their efforts."
Previously, the state's Special Select Committee on Water Management, Agriculture, Infrastructure and Mobility (Infragro) announced that no high-priority flood mitigation projects (TBBT) in Selangor have been cancelled.
Its chairperson, Michelle Ng Mei Sze, said that the appointments for the projects were made through a selected pre-qualification tender process.
The list of high-priority projects are as follows:
- Sungai Klang Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) — RM140.7 million
- Sungai Kapar Kecil and Sungai Kapar Besar (RTB)— RM219 million
- Sungai Langat (RTB) Phase 2 — RM684.6 million
- Dual-Function Retention Pond — RM662.5 million
- Sungai Damansara (RTB)— RM551.8 million
On a separate matter, Najwan said two Hijrah Selangor entrepreneurs who were affected by the recent gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights have been offered a loan repayment deferment of up to six months, as a show of solidarity and to ease their burden.
“So far, we have identified two entrepreneurs impacted by the explosion and are still working to determine if any other Hijrah Selangor beneficiaries were affected.
“For these individuals, we will provide a moratorium of up to six months and reassess the situation after that. We are giving them flexibility in repayment so it doesn’t become a burden,” he said.
Earlier during the event, Najwan presented a RM2,000 assistance to the two affected entrepreneurs, courtesy of Hijrah Selangor.
