SHAH ALAM, April 23 — The state administration has made various initiatives available to upskill workers to align with industry needs, and maintain Selangor’s position as the main contributor to the national gross domestic product (GDP).

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication V. Papparaidu said among those programmes are Industry 4.0 technical training under the Selangor Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC), and short-term technical and vocational training courses under the Selangor Technical Development Centre,

“The SHRDC offers training in fields such as solar energy and electronic circuit design that are aligned with high-impact industries, while the STDC has six-month courses to produce highly employable workers.

“Meanwhile, HRD Corp also supports workers groups with the e-Latih platform, which offers over 1,000 training modules in various fields including digital skills, communications, and entrepreneurship. The portal is accessible to all,” Papparaidu told Media Selangor.

He said workers must find upskilling opportunities to ensure their abilities are relevant to current market needs.

“We also have talent growth and reskilling programmes, in line with high-demand industry trends such as artificial intelligence, automation, and data analysis,” he added.

In July last year, the Statistics Department reported that Selangor contributed 25.9 per cent to the national GDP, higher than its 25.5 per cent the previous year.

The state’s economy grew by 5.4 per cent in 2024, topping the average national rate of 3.6 per cent.

The state’s First Selangor Plan (RS-1), which was announced by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari in July 2022, has guided the state’s development, including to face the slower global economy next year. It laid the foundations for several large projects such as the Sabak Bernam Development Authority and the Integrated Development Region In South Selangor.

On April 14, Amirudin said the second plan, RS-2, will be tabled next year to guide the state’s new development direction.
