SHAH ALAM, April 21 — Selangor welcomed 1.84 million tourists between January and March (Q1) this year; a 3.6 per cent rise compared with Q1 last year.

State executive councillor for local government and tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said based on this growth, the Selangor administration is optimistic its Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign will achieve its aim of attracting eight million visitors.

“We are aiming for 70 per cent of the visitors to be domestic travellers, with the remaining 30 per cent from abroad. This influx is expected to generate more than RM11 billion in tourist receipts and significantly benefit the local economy, especially petty traders,” he told Media Selangor.

Tourist arrivals are expected to surge in Q3 and Q4, with expectations of surpassing four million visitors in these periods alone.

Ng said newer attractions have begun to gain popularity among local and international visitors, including Splash Mania in Kuala Langat and Skyline Luge in Rawang.

The Northern Selangor tourism zone, which spans Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam, has also seen increased interest.

“Key shopping destinations such as 1 Utama and the Curve in Petaling Jaya, along with IOI City Mall and Sunway Pyramid, have also recorded noticeable increases in tourist footfall,” he added.

To boost visibility, the state government intensified tourism promotion efforts last year through advertising, digital media campaigns, domestic and international roadshows, exhibitions, and tourism events.

In July, 55 Smart Selangor buses across all districts were outfitted with advertisements that spotlit local attractions, with a RM250,000 allocation.

The state has also collaborated with AirAsia to feature the Visit Selangor Year 2025 brand on routes to Indonesia, Singapore, China and Japan.
