KLANG, April 17 — The Klang Sustainable Stormwater Plan (KLASS) flood mitigation initiative is on track despite the April 11 flash floods in several parts of Klang, said Mayor Dato’ Abd Hamid Hussain.
He said the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) has learnt an important lesson from the incident and will use it to reinforce the flood mitigation plan.
“KLASS is a five-year plan, and the project is being implemented in stages that must undergo various processes, including procurement and alignment, so it cannot be carried out immediately.
“Data gathered from the recent flood incident can be used by us (MBDK) to assess the effectiveness of the existing plan,” he said when met by reporters at MBDK’s Aidilfitri celebration here today.
Meanwhile, Hamid said the MBDK issued notices to developers operating within its jurisdiction, ensuring the proper maintenance of drainage systems, and the construction of retention ponds near their project sites to prevent flooding.
He said the MBDK will not compromise with anyone, especially business premises owners who fail to properly manage waste and cause disruptions to the drainage system in Klang.
Hamid also said the MBDK will act against developers or homeowners who obstruct drainage systems with unauthorised construction.
