SHAH ALAM, April 15 — Climate change and artificial intelligence will be some of the topics to be debated in this year’s Selangor Youth State Assembly (ADN Muda) programme.
State Legislative Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San said the recent gas pipeline explosion incident in Putra Heights is also expected to be among the issues debated.
“A total of 112 participants will be shortlisted for the first round on June 14, with 56 selected to take part in the programme on July 28 to 29, where they will compete for the Tuan Speaker Trophy.
“Main topics to be debated include youth voting rights, economic empowerment, social media, climate change, education, sports and youth development, artificial intelligence, and the cost of living,” he said.
Lau was speaking during a press conference on a survey launched by the state government on investment-linked infrastructure in Selangor and the ADN Muda programme at the State Secretariat Building today.
He added that those interested in participating can sign up for the programme, which will close on Sunday (April 20).
“The annual programme will provide opportunities for youth between 18 to 35 years old to better understand the democratic system and actively participate in debates similar to the Selangor State Legislative Assembly.
“Those who were not able to participate in the previous programmes are welcome to take up the opportunity and re-apply,” Lau said.
He noted that the participants come from diverse backgrounds, including married people and others who are still pursuing their studies at tertiary institutions.
