SHAH ALAM, April 15 — The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and the Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin have expressed their deepest sorrows over the passing of Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Their Royal Highnesses also conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the heirs and family of the late Tun Abdullah, particularly to his widow Tun Jeanne Abdullah.
"His Royal Highness the Sultan, who had known the late Tun Abdullah since the late 1960s, described him as a dedicated and composed statesman. He is remembered as a leader who greatly prioritised the well-being of the people," said the Selangor Royal Office in a statement today.
In recognition of his service and contributions, the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah conferred upon Abdullah the Order of Dato’ Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah (D.S.S.A.) in 1992, and the Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Crown of Selangor (S.P.M.S.) in 2000.
"Their Royal Highnesses pray that the soul of the late Tun Abdullah is blessed by Allah SWT and placed among the righteous. Al-Fatihah," it said.
Abdullah, who served as Malaysia's fifth prime minister from October 31, 2003, to April 3, 2009, passed away at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur at 7.10pm yesterday.
His state funeral will take place at Masjid Negara in Kuala Lumpur today, where members of the public can pay their respects to the deceased statesman from 10am to 1pm.
