SHAH ALAM, April 13 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is intensifying efforts to clean the drainage system to prevent blockages and reduce the risk of flash floods.

Shah Alam Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said several areas experienced flash floods yesterday due to heavy rain and a high tide phenomenon.

“As of now, water has receded in several areas. However, to ensure smooth water flow, every drainage system, including drains and culverts, must be free of rubbish and fallen leaves.

“We hope these initiatives and efforts will help prevent flash floods and ensure that no drains are clogged,” he told Media Selangor yesterday.

Fauzi added that currently, only two temporary relief centres (PPS) remain open, housing 377 victims from 102 families at Dewan Kenanga in Section 28 and Dewan Bakawali in Section 35.

According to the Social Welfare Department's official portal, 1,104 flood victims from 300 families were sheltering at six PPS in Shah Alam, Klang, and Subang Jaya as of 9.15am today.

“Four other PPS have been closed after victims were allowed to return home or were relocated to Dewan Bakawali in Section 35,” he said.

Heavy rain early yesterday morning caused flash floods in several areas of Shah Alam, including the main road in front of the HL warehouse in Section 23, Sri Muda.

In addition to Shah Alam, several areas in Klang, Puchong, and Hulu Langat were also affected by flash floods.
