MB: State govt to focus on repairing homes, rentals for Putra Heights gas pipeline fire victims

SUBANG JAYA, April 12 — The state government is focusing on repairing homes and settling rental arrangements for victims affected by the recent gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said that so far, 307 homes have been cleared for re-occupancy, with the number expected to rise once the cleaning works, which began today, are completed.

“Next week, we will focus on two matters — rental and home repairs.

“We are now nearing the final stage or close to fully resolving the situation once the rental arrangements are completed, including disbursing rental payments,” he said during the launch of the Mega Cleaning Operation (Ops Mega Pembersihan) at the Subang Jaya City Council Arena today.

On a related note, Amirudin said that Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru is the most challenging area to clean due to its unplanned layout.

“Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru was not built using a structured housing method or according to proper standards, unlike other residential areas like Putra Heights and Putra Harmoni.

“The area was independently developed by residents over many years, so the impact is more severe and requires greater effort and time to address,” he said.

4,600 volunteers, including state government staff and various agencies, took part in the operation in Putra Heights and Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru today.

It involved 12 local authorities, the police, the Malaysian Armed Forces, the Fire and Rescue Department, KDEB Waste Management, and Selangor Volunteer or SERVE, under the supervision of the State Sports Council.
