SHAH ALAM, April 12 — The Hari Raya Aidilfitri Banquet organised by the Shah Alam Parliamentary constituency and Batu Tiga State Assembly, scheduled for tomorrow, has been cancelled, said Shah Alam MP Azli Yusof.
He said the decision was made following the floods that have affected parts of Shah Alam and Batu Tiga, including Kampung Padang Jawa, Taman Rashna, Section 23, Kampung Kebun Bunga, and Kampung Kuantan.
“As of now, three temporary relief centres have been opened — PPS SK Section 16, PPS SMK Section 16, and SRA Padang Jawa.
“This is also a precautionary measure in anticipation of the unpredictable weather expected over the coming days,” he said in a joint statement with Batu Tiga state assemblyman Danial Al-Rashid Haron today.
Azli added that the allocation meant for the banquet’s preparations and expenses will instead be channelled into food aid, cleaning efforts, and essential supplies to help ease the burden on flood victims.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. We hope this decision and our efforts reflect our concern and compassion for those affected by the floods,” he said.
