KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 — The number of dengue cases dropped to 1,021 in Epidemiological Week 13 (EW13) from March 23 to 29, compared with 1,129 cases the previous week.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan in a statement said no deaths due to dengue complications were reported in EW13.

He said the cumulative number of dengue cases reported up to EW13 stood at 16,296 with 10 deaths, compared with 44,144 cases and 31 deaths in the same period last year.

“However, the number of hotspots increased to 21 in EW13, compared with 20 the previous week,” he said.

Of the 21 localities, 14 were in Selangor, three in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, two in Sabah, and one each in Negeri Sembilan and Kedah.

He reminded the public to remain vigilant to ensure dengue cases do not rise and stay below the five-year median, especially during the festive season, as the virus can be transmitted by infected individuals, including those without symptoms.
