SHAH ALAM, April 9 — Around 1,000 volunteers are expected to take part in the cleaning and gotong-royong efforts this weekend at the site of last week's gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government is coordinating efforts with the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) to ensure that all affected homes are cleaned.

“There will be cleanup and gotong-royong sessions on Saturday (April 12) and Sunday (apri; 13) involving a large number of volunteers from the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation (SWCorp), the Special Action Squad (Pantas), Team Selangor, and Selangor Volunteers (SERVE).

“It may involve around 1,000 volunteers, and the cleanup will be conducted thoroughly in the affected areas to make it comfortable for victims, especially the 270 households confirmed safe, to return home,” he said during a special press conference at the State Secretariat Building today.

Amirudin added that those who wish to help are encouraged to register with the SERVE team to ensure that all volunteers are properly managed and to avoid overcrowding that could burden local residents.

In a related development, the Menteri Besar said a road located 30 metres from the explosion site, managed by the Subang Jaya City Council, has been closed to facilitate the investigation process.

“The road has been closed because it runs across the area between the construction lot and Taman Putra Harmoni. It has not been in use, but for the investigation, we have decided to shut it down.

“This is to allow the police and technical teams to collect data more efficiently and determine the cause of the incident, including identifying the parties responsible,” he said.
