SHAH ALAM, April 9 — Local e-hailing service provider GV Ride is offering free transportation to victims of the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.
Its chief executive officer Kabeer Maand said the initiative was introduced to support affected residents, especially during this challenging period.
GV Ride recognises the urgent need for reliable transportation and is providing free rides to help affected residents get to work, school, medical appointments, and other essential needs.
"This initiative is part of our commitment to community support and ensuring that disruptions to daily routines are minimised.
"GV Ride reiterates its commitment to always stand with the community. We believe in taking action when our community needs us the most," he said in a statement today.
Kabeer added that the initiative is their way of giving back and ensuring that those impacted by this tragedy have access to safe and reliable transportation.
The company will also work closely with the state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han and the local authorities involved in relief efforts to coordinate the programme.
He said the initiative will run for a period of time, allowing affected families the opportunity to make preparations and long-term transportation arrangements.
The Petronas gas pipeline fire that broke out around 8.10am on April 1 sent flames more than 30 metres into the sky, with temperatures soaring to 1,000°C. It took nearly eight hours for the blaze to be fully extinguished.
The incident left 81 houses completely destroyed with structural damage exceeding 40 per cent, another 81 houses partially destroyed, 57 damaged but not burned, and 218 houses unaffected.
