KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 — The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) has contributed three tonnes of humanitarian aid as part of a 15-tonne joint relief consignment sent to Myanmar following a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28.
Its contribution comprises 100 kitchen sets, 200 hygiene kits, 1,085 sets of sanitary pads, 94 blankets, 348 mosquito nets, and other essential relief supplies. In addition to the aid supplies, MRC also deployed two of its volunteers to participate in the humanitarian mission in support of affected communities.
The 15-tonne aid shipment was coordinated under the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) initiative and involved close collaboration with MRC and partners of the Rakan Nadma Disaster Emergency Exercise (Randex). The joint effort also included contributions from Randex partners including Tzu Chi Malaysia, Kembara Kitchen, Pertubuhan Ihsan Johor, and MyCARE, demonstrating the unity and compassion of Malaysians in responding to regional disasters.
The delivery of these items was made possible through the return flight of the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team, who arrived back in Malaysia yesterday after completing their humanitarian mission and supporting search and rescue operations in the affected regions.
The distribution and coordination of humanitarian aid on the ground in Myanmar are being managed through a partnership between Nadma, MRC, the Myanmar Red Cross Society, and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, ensuring that the assistance reaches those most in need.
“This mission reflects the strong and effective partnership between the Malaysian Red Crescent and Nadma in responding swiftly to humanitarian needs.
"We are proud to stand alongside our government agencies and partners to deliver life-saving support to our neighbours in Myanmar. MRC remains steadfast in our commitment to provide humanitarian services both locally and across the region,” said its secretary-general Datuk Danial Iskandar Abdul Rahman.
This mission strongly symbolises Malaysia’s commitment to regional humanitarian response, and the MRC urges the public, corporate partners, and community organisations to support ongoing relief efforts.
